For I long and long,
Searching for what can be mine,
In this world, so wide;
While everyone around me,
Sings a song,
Welcoming “tomorrow.”
What is tomorrow for me?
Is it somewhere I belong?
What if I forget my mother tongue?
Writing in a language,
That’s not for me,
That takes from me.
What if my heart aches?
Like hearts usually do –
Would I be in the wrong?
All the mornings and evenings,
Stretching so long;
Remembering a memory,
That never existed,
Or it did?
Holding to it for dear life,
String by string,
Note by note,
Song by song.
What if I’ve never been strong?
Maybe, maybe,
One day I will be –
And maybe I won’t.
And I will lose all the alphabets,
And bid farewell for good.
But for now, I know,
I will never, never stay there;
And I know,
I will never cease to belong.
