Wijdan – a new Arab-Centered Literary magazine

In English, Wijdan refers to: soul, sentiment, conscience. It’s our inner strength, what moves us or allows us to be moved whether in pleasure or pain.

As artists, we often tend to create art on issues that resonate with us, that reflect our views and experiences, but as Arab artists, one of our biggest challenges is finding a receptive community for our work.

We’re often met with dismissal, our art deemed ‘irrelevant’ because it doesn’t depict the world through rose-colored glasses, but rather, through the eyes of a background the rest of the world does not know of. Other times, we’re overlooked, for tackling the issues that need to have a light shed on them.

In a world where Arab writers and artists are silenced, Wijdan sees light, offering a much-needed lifetime to bridge this gap – a canvas for Arab writers and artists around the world to be read, seen, loved and celebrated.

Wijdan is more than a platform, it’s a community – not in the traditional sense, but in an otherworldly one, one where we can draw on experiences together, work together, grow together and leave a mark together. Whether you’re a writer, an artist, a friend, someone with an interest, or just a curious follower, Wijdan will always be available to you.

We pride ourselves in offering you this platform to express, to share and to get published.

Your art always has a home here.
